Drafts and notes, 1854-1912.

The bulk of the collection is manuscripts, drafts, and notes for Rice's "Life of Eli Thayer." Includes material Rice collected about Thayer in interviews with him and from newspapers, a few letters and legal documents of Thayer, and material pertaining to the Emigrant Aid Society which Thayer founded during the struggle for Kansas. Also contains copies of vital records from towns in Worcester County that Rice used in other publications, and a small amount of correspondence concerning Rice's work in historical associations.
